By His Stripes We Were Healed

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." — Isaiah 53:5

For several decades there has been theological debates and conversations over whether God still heals physical sickness. No one wonders about spiritual healing or healing of the soul, but physical healing for some people seems outside of Gods will and or power. For others it is something that God does periodically. But what does the bible really teach about healing? And why are some healed while others are not? Healing in the bible is promised but not guaranteed. Just as none of Gods promises are guaranteed since they are all received by faith. It doesn't take allot of faith to be healed, its simply having faith in the

right one. Christ is the power and the wisdom of God. People are healed by faith in the name of Jesus. Peter makes this clear in his declaration after healing the lame men in Acts. 3. He said, "And his name—by faith in his name—has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through Jesus has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all." Acts 3:16.

Who was it that had faith in the name of Jesus? Was it the lame man? No, it was Peter and John who had faith in the name of Jesus to heal. And through their faith Gods power to heal was given. The Apostles never debated over Gods power nor his willingness to heal the sick. They believed that it was the Lords will to heal. Otherwise they would not have acted to heal a man who did not even ask them to do it. They did not align themselves with the mans will, they aligned themselves to Gods will. It was Gods will to heal Him. It was not just a good idea imagined by the Apostles. It was Gods will.

Peter and John had watched the Lord heal the sick on many different occasions. Yet they NEVER saw the Lord deny anyone of healing who came to him. Jesus lived to do Gods will, and it is clear that healing people of their sicknesses and diseases is Gods will. Clear evidence is that when John the Baptist sent messengers to ask Jesus if he was the one or should they be waiting for another? The bible says "At that very hour Jesus healed many people of their diseases, afflictions, and evil spirits, and He gave sight to many who were blind."And he answered them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to them." Luke 7:21-22.

Do you hear that? Jesus used healing and the proclaiming of the good news as evidence that He is the Messiah. He didn't point to Baptism, or to His genealogy or to the law of Moses. He pointed to his miraculous power to heal , his will to heal and to proclaim the good news; the forgiveness of sins.

Knowing that you are forgiven and in good standing with God is important.

Exodus 15:26 – "I am the Lord Your God who heals you.

Psalm 30:2 – "Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me."

Jeremiah 17:14 – "Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.

1 Peter 2:24 – "...by his wounds you have been healed."

Jeremiah 30:17 – "But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,' declares the Lord."

Matthew 8:17- This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”
