The Authority of Gods word in Your Life

I remember the first time that truth clicked for me. It changed everything about what I believed and how I looked at life, people, and my circumstances. I realized that my circumstances did not dictate truth, nor did my emotions or my limited understanding. God alone dictates truth, and His truth will stand forever.

It was a true eye opener for me. Until then, I believed everything I saw, and much of what I

heard, whether it aligned with truth or not. Once realizing that God is the author of all truth, I decided to believe His word above every other word.

God's word is not the same as facts. In fact, His word can change the facts and transform your reality. There is incredible power in God's word.

Abraham believed the word of God in spite of his age, his wife's age, and in spite of being completely unable to assist God in bringing His word to pass.

Think about that for a moment. Abraham had every fact stacked against him. His body was as good as dead. Sarah's womb had been closed for decades. There was no medical explanation, no natural pathway, no five-step plan that could get them from where they stood to where God said they would end up. The facts said impossible. God's word said otherwise.

And Scripture tells us exactly what Abraham did with that tension:

"He did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised." (Romans 4:20-21)

He didn't ignore the facts. He didn't pretend his body wasn't aging or that Sarah's womb wasn't barren. He simply refused to let those facts have the final word. He gave God's word more weight than the evidence in front of him, and that is the definition of faith. Hebrews 11:1 says faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Not the evidence of things seen. Faith deals in a different currency altogether.

This is where so many of us get stuck. We treat facts and truth as if they're the same thing, but they're not. A fact is simply what is currently observable. Truth is what God has declared, and His declarations don't bend to the moment. Facts change. God's word does not.

  • The fact was, Abraham was too old. The truth was, he would be the father of many nations.

  • The fact was, Sarah was barren. The truth was, she would hold her own son.

  • The fact was, there was no natural way forward. The truth was, God specializes in what has no natural way forward.

When I finally understood this, it didn't just change my theology, it changed how I lived. I stopped asking, "What do I see?" and started asking, "What has God said?" I stopped letting my emotions or my circumstances author my beliefs, and I let God's word be the final authority over every situation I faced.

That doesn't mean the facts disappear. Your diagnosis is still real. The bank account is still what it is. The relationship is still strained. But none of those facts get to override what God has spoken over your life. Facts describe the natural. Truth declares the supernatural. And when you plant yourself in what God has said, you position yourself for Him to do what only He can do; change the facts to align with His truth.

Abraham didn't have Isaac in his arms when he believed. He had a promise in his spirit. And he held onto that promise, against every fact, until the promise became flesh.

What has God spoken over your life that the facts are currently arguing against? Whatever it is, I want to encourage you today: don't let what you see talk you out of what God has said. Facts are subject to change. God's word is not.

"Let God be true, and every man a liar." (Romans 3:4)

Believe Him above every other voice, every circumstance, and every fact that tries to stand in His way. His word will stand forever, and so will everything He has promised you.
